Well Hello there!
It’s been a long time coming but here we are. Being that this is our first official blog post for the BRAND SPANKIN’ NEW ARIGO RECORDINGS website (aint it fly yawl?!), we felt it would be important to introduce ourselves properly. So here goes:
First off, because everyone asks this, the label name is pronounced: AIR-E-GO. Say it with me, AIR-E-GO. Again… Great job, now go take a nap you’ve worked hard today! Just kidding!!!
Instead of boring you with our mission statement which I’m sure you’ve already read if you’re on our site, we at ARIGO RECORDINGS thought that it would be more useful to explain our label more simplistically. We started this label because each of us love music, and the feelings it invokes in all of us. I know, I know, everyone says that. You read a thousand profiles on myspace, facebook, etc. and they all say, ‘I love all music…’ But do they really? What do they love about music? Can they pin-point it? It meaning what they love? Hell, can we? After sitting down one night at David Poole’s house, talking about how crazy music is today, we all decided to stop complaining about it and do something about it. I mean after all, there are still some really great artists out there. One in particular is signed to this label (Simone Taylor). It became apparent to us that we needed to help all those people who say they love all music, hear some REAL MUSIC. We just started throwing out ideas about how we would run a label, offering fair contracts for artists, real marketing strategies, strong album promotions, artistic details, etc. It all just came out of our mouths as if we had been planning this for years. By the end of the night, it was 4am, and we had a whole 300 page notebook filled with ammunition to begin ARIGO RECORDINGS. So that was it in a nut-shell.
