Do we ever get out of high school?
How’s everybody doing this evening? Good? That’s cool…real cool! Well I thought I would blog a little this evening with you and get some possible comments about life after HIGH SCHOOL.
So the ARIGO RECORDINGS family decided to hang out at our local coffee shop on Shattuck Ave. today after work, and the topic of BOYS, GAMES, and how they all relate to HIGH SCHOOL came up. My young, female, assistant asked us GROWN-ASS MALE staff, ‘why guys play so many games?’ I of course answered with the question, ‘What the hell does that mean? What type of games?’ As you can see, I’m a bit out of touch, but after a little explaining she delved into what she actually meant…why do guys always want to f*ck around with you and 10 other girls you probably already know. Well there is no easy response to this question, especially since I’ve never been the type of guy who is like this, but it brought me back to my high school days when I remember that was the goal for some guys. Get as many girls on your list of victims as possible in order to obtain the highest standard of bragging rights. Or ‘doings’ rights, as I remembered it being called. I never understood this little cat and mouse game, but then again, in high school I didn’t really have much ‘game.’
So I explained to my assistant that some guys grow out of this phase. Sometimes it takes a heart-break to get them out of acting this way. Sometimes it takes a real ass kicking. Sometimes its just time. Whatever the case may be, some of us grow up, but there are also the one’s who refuse to. I guess the guy she was referring to is one of these guys.
Now there is a WHITE ELEPHANT ON THE TABLE: Do we ever get out of high school?
I know we get educations, careers, responsibilities, etc. but is adulthood that much different than high school. We still have those cliques of friends. We still try to look our best at those company functions (prom), and we compete in the company sports team (school sports). Not to mention you still have the same type of gossip and brown-nosing that occurred when you walked the halls of your alma-mater. The way I see it, adulthood can be for some people a minor step above high school. I know people who feel the best time of their lives was in high school. Not college. Not the birth of their kids. But high school. No these people aren’t Al Bundy, but they might as well be. All I can say is you graduated for a reason. Let’s try growing up and maturing.
As the other guys chimed in, the idea of lack of self-esteem was brought up. Guys lack self-esteem. Women lack self-esteem. We are all a low self-esteem country I guess. It occurred to me while everyone was throwing their thoughts out, that this is one of the main objectives of ARIGO RECORDINGS. After the shows are booked, the publishing started, and all the nuts and bolts are in place for our first album to finally be released, we really want people to feel uplifted and challenged by the material we produce and put out there. We all have issues, but for whatever reason we forget that the person sitting next to us probably has endured the same SH*T we are going through right now. Or what about the guy that lives down the hall from you? He probably went through it 2 years ago. Bottom line, let’s help each other out people. Let’s inspire each other. Let’s get to know our neighbors and help them through their tough times. You never know, they may have the ‘stuck in high school syndrome‘ just like you.
